something in me loved to explore
the vast stretches of savanna grassland
behind our house
which was on the outskirts of the community

didn’t know
perhaps the mixture of danger and pleasure
scattered into the inviting aura hanging over the place
for as you journeyed deeper, the grass grew taller
and so did the probability of running into thick poisonous snakes

the barrier separating safety from danger was a deep gully, mostly dry due to the prolonged drought that combed the northern part of the country like some sad lonesome ghost

some nights, singing and drumming from the village across the deep valley circled the bonfires they made, floating in the direction of our houses, following us even into our dreams

perhaps this quest for adventure means something
and that something, only time can tell
