Sometimes on your writing career journey, you come to that point where you feel you have nothing to write about, and might never get something to write about again.
Maybe it happens to the musician too, who comes to that point where they wonder if they can produce another hit song. If ever they would, where the inspiration was going to come from. For there are days they sit and wait, sometimes combing every space within for morsels of inspiration but find none.
The musician and writer is not alone. It happens to many people in various fields, a point where one gets sick of routines, yearning for something fresh, something unique, something new.
Where is the motivation to constantly produce things that require one to outgrow one’s current self? At times, while we seek the opportunity to leave behind one legacy for a bigger one, we hear a voice that questions the need to always dream of better things than the current.
Why not be grateful? A voice tells us. Why all these striving ? Why does it matter? Why not remain content living low key in one’s hole or space? Isn’t life more satisfying when lived in privacy with the goal of feeling satisfied with oneself rather than impressing others, or trying to leave a lasting impression on others?
As we weigh these questions and the ideas of this voice, we begin to see the wisdom in those words, and their effects begin to take a toll on us like alcohol does to our senses and focus.
But we must remember that life is a journey, and to make progress, there must be some consistency in our walk. People who are tired of progressing and have camped permanently should not be criticized.
This voyage is best traveled minding one’s business, focusing on one’s path, without comparisons. Just keep going, however slow the pace. Don’t let others rush you into detours that don’t reflect you and what you stand for. Don’t let others push you to camp when you sense the call of a unique path you must chart.
You may slow down, but only pause for strength to continue, and to make adjustments, to reset. You still have miles to go.
The treasures of this journey are buried in consistent habits.
There is a certain height in the path of consistency when you meet rocks. They are signs that something beautiful is beneath. Keep going, keep digging.
Soon, the rocks will part, and make way to the oceans of inspirations behind them, a sea of potential that cannot be depleted in a lifetime, potential surrounded by so many distractions and obstacles that make many abandon the search.
This ocean has always lived within, filled with rare minerals few eyes see, few hands feel. It’s burried deep on purpose, meant for those who work for it. Only a tougher metal can cut through a tough metal. Consistency is the only way to the ocean of potential within.
