The prophecy has come to pass

It all seemed both familiar and strange. Like an old dream one cannot quite remember the details, details that the present is effortlessly trying to awaken. One moment it appears the dream is back, the next moment it’s faded off memory, almost as if determined to return no more, leaving one with a burning desire to run after it. With every supernatural power one could muster. To find out what about the future is trying to reveal itself, like phases of the moon.

It was one hot Sunday afternoon. After church. Was bored. And the only solution to the growing boredom was to take a walk, through the enervating heat.

Then suddenly, a cloud blocked the sun. What was supposed to be temporarily lingered a little longer. Seemed the new weather. Cool, refreshing, adding beauty to everything I saw.

I spotted a yellowish flower beside the wall of a house along the streets I walked, very fresh and flamboyant, standing out against the dusty environment, growing dustier thanks to the worsening harmattan.

For some strange reason, I had a feeling the sight was prophetic. It meant something. And instinctively, I knew what it meant: I would meet love at a place I least expect, at a time I am not expecting one. And it would be beautiful, standing out, just like the flower.

It was my gift. The ability to spot a sign or an object in a certain environment and see the future in it. I couldn’t explain, or tell how I’m able to do that. And I do not do it deliberately, neither can I do it whenever I want. I just see something, and instinctively know that it means something. And not long, that something comes to pass.

This prophecy of the silently beautiful flower standing out against its environment was a very long time ago. And I had forgotten about it. Like waiting for the Promised One, who never comes, generation after generation, till many believe its a myth. Then one day, the prophecy comes to pass, like a dream in which the hosts of heaven march across the sky on chariots of fire, with so much force, glory and majesty that all mortals bow in adoration and awe, the earth trembling and quivering at the holy sight.

It took a while for me to remember the prophecy had come to pass. Initially, it all seemed like a lucky coincidence. Until I began reflecting on the unusual nature of recent happenings. How we met, the one-out-of-a-million chances that such an incident could repeat itself.

But there it was, whether I believed it or not. And every instinct, gift, ability, foresight within me…they all confirm like the aligning of stars..that this is the One.

Call it myth. Fable. Fairy tale. Castles in the air. I’m living it, and the joy of what I have tasted makes me forgiving of anyone who doubts.
