It always starts with the belief in something weird, something controversial …and before you know, adherents are looking and behaving like the very things they believe in.
The sad part is the deliberate shutting down of critical thinking skills. Especially when people get to that borderline called faith, where they cross into the territory of religion.
True faith in a divine being is supposed to be like a science experiment where you share the steps you followed in arriving at your conclusions so that any open-minded person can replicate the steps to test the results of your findings.
How sad when people draw conclusions and refuse to share what informed their stance, refuse to be questioned, refuse to see the folly in a certain line of reasoning.
If it’s not about Sunday being the day of a sun goddess and as such an evil day to worship God on or celebrate a parent, it is about white folks being the source of the problems of black people….or a bunch of scientists cooking diseases to feed humanity into extinction …or some devil who has turned himself into a DJ determined to mix mankind and music into an inferno….the list goes on and on.
You should see believers of such conspiracy theories, glued to their phones, watching leftovers of previous theories being reheated into a savage cocktail of videos for them, for they are a determined lot who never tire of brainwashing.
But the world is never in a hurry to spin a little bit faster just to see the end of a story of folly unfolding. It has been here before all of us, seen giants and dwarfs and every imaginable daredevil stunt, outlived every inclination to live forever that’s been squashed under its revolving foot.
Whatever people choose to believe in, patient time will put to test. It’s just saddening that many don’t read its publications and choose to reconduct experiment they cannot live long enough to see its results.
But the moral you and I can draw from this long tale is to always remember to wear our nose masks whenever bypassing people who like to draw others into senseless arguments, people who are never willing to admit their ignorance or mistakes, never willing to apologize for holding on to wrong views for so long, never having an open mind ready to learn from others to gain a rounded growth.
