Did you ever have to wait for something, in suspense, wondering the outcome?

You wished you had some superpowers to get quick answers, quick results, instant response to what you sought.

It can make you imagine things. You picture being denied what you are seeking, you imagine the pain, the loss, the shame, the hurt.

And if you’re pessimistic, you think of the joy it might bring, the relief and the boost to your ego.

Eventually long awaited things come to pass, some more exciting than we had anticipated. Others, a total disappointment. And a few in-betweens ; you don’t know whether to be happy or sad that they finally came to pass.

Whether good or bad, whether joyful or sad, events and incidents come and go.

However, the impact they leave on us depends on how we interpret them.

One thing that buffles me is how we soon lose interest in a hit song, a great movie, an insightful book and press on, looking for new things. We are constantly looking for new information, new recipes, new experiences to stir up the boredom.

Makes me wonder : what could ever satisfy the human soul such that it will forever desire nothing more ? And if there is no such thing, why were we created that way?

Certainly, the harder we fight to win certain victories, the dearer those achievements will seem to us. But no matter how precious an achievement, its freshness, its effect on us, its value and its significance soon wane. We describe them to a new generation of youngsters and they’re unable to connect, unable to relate, unable to appreciate why those experiences meant so much to us.

Perhaps, it’s just how life is. And we just have to get used to it.

It’s human nature to look for new things to inspire us all the time.
