They say knowledge should be free, that some people can’t afford. And to put that  sermon into practice,   websites are set up where thousands of free books are available for download, a free download of books others have toiled to write and raise money for their publication and reprints.

The irony? The same websites will be requesting for  donations to help maintain the sites. Of course, nobody ever returns “excess site maintenance fee”  to donors. And nobody thinks of the reward of the writer after putting in so many years and hours to birth a book.

If the philosophy is that knowledge should be free for all, why don’t the so-called philosophers purchase hundreds of books to be distributed to those who can’t afford, or write books to be distributed for free.

In this narrative of “free knowledge for all”, those who can afford any book of their choice are not mentioned.

If everything should be obtained for free, where do the value and joy attached to going through pains to reach our goals fit? Or some of such pains are needless and should be eliminated?
