Plants are like blind servants. They stand at one place all their lives with arms stretched out, with their roots, stems, leaves, fruits and any other thing they can offer on the tray to serve humanity.

When our water bodies are polluted from chemicals like those used in mining minerals in water bodies, the blind plants nearby drink, and inject some into everything on their plate to be offered to humans. And because plants and what they offer are gifts to humanity, neatly packaged by God, what lies beneath what the naked eye can see in those gifts is only felt when consumed.

We may drink to our health on condition that the blind plant servants are healthy. God save us if their minds are polluted with chemicals. They will kill us!

In my country Ghana in West Africa, we have sat back for illegal mining to destroy many of the beautiful forests and water bodies our forefathers left us. Recent findings show that drinking water  in homes and many foodstuffs on the market have mercury and other toxic substances in them.

If the people who lived before us were as senseless as we are now with the gift of nature God has given us, what sort of environment would we have grown in? What sort of incurable diseases would we be living with?

Why can’t we pass on the beautiful world we came to meet to the next generation?

That “blind servants” image really hits, Benji — quietly haunting and full of truth.

I hope by the time we give a lot of thought to that question, it isn’t late.
