Macho beast
In its muscles and sunbaked feet
Long distances and untold stories glisten
Tough chest
Fears no competition
Outruns anything
that can plant a foot in front of the other
When I was a child
Travelling with my parents
Seemed like a space exploration
My eyes lit
With nothing to extinguish the sense of wonder
Everything was new and fascinating
Inviting me to watch, never satisfied
I would watch and watch and watch
Cooking up customized interpretations
Then I grew up
And wherever I went
Nothing seemed to spark
That sense of wonder of childhood days
Travel from the city to a neighboring town
Its like travelling from 21st century
Into the dawn of civilization
Only the cities are developing
The countryside on stagnation and replay mode
I cross into a neighboring country
Same black faces with different names
Though I encounter a few shocks here and there
In between the lands connecting the two countries
I see vast stretches of land
Mankind is yet to think of what to do with them
Such a sharp contrast to the choked cities
And these virgin lands
They keep me thinking
So much to be done
Despite all the progress we claim we’ve made
Sometimes I wonder
Which people once occupied all these places
thousands of years ago?
Our rent will expire one day too
With others to take our places
Why all this fighting
Over something we cannot take along
Into the afterlife?
