I enter a medieval chapel
Trapped in the ancient architecture
A distinctive atmosphere I grope for a label
I marvel at the mystery
And mastery
Of the designs
The dexterity
The pain and passion pumped into the project
Impressively appealing
A signature of past lives and past times
In its walls, I sense the sweat of the workers
And the desperation of the owners
And the unspoken messages imprinted
The images engraved in the windows are lit by sunlight
Martyrs, looking up to heaven
I follow the gaze in the images
But do not see what they saw
