Traffic jam. I check my time. Probably won’t be home as early as planned.

The driver is contemplating changing his route.

“Anyone alighting at Third Gate?“ he asks without turning to the conductor.

” One passenger, ” the conductor tells him.

The driver seems annoyed by that piece of information.

I shake my head staring at the dreadlocks on the driver’s head. They’re always nice when they need passengers but once they get their money, they do not hesitate to dump passengers at odd places when carrying passengers to their preferred destinations will be an inconvenience.

I watch the manœuvres and the detour. Down a winding hill we go. Looked like we were making progress till the driver made a sharp turn to rejoin the traffic further down the main road we had left.

What was all the concert for if we end up back in the same traffic? Seemed the dreadlocks were interfering in the clear thinking of the driver.

Anyway, who am I to complain?

These hoodlums wouldn’t think twice before dumping me in the middle of nowhere if I complain.

And yet they pray to God every day to bless them with money when they have such bad customer service skills.

Finally, I get to the junction I am to alight. A few passengers had to alight to make space for me to get off the mini van. It’s a dead German delivery van that had reincarnated itself into a rickety bus in which thousands of black lives which do not matter are compressed.

I trudge home, deep in thoughts. Walking gives one space to think over many things without feeling the impact of a long walk.

Hadn’t had enough sleep since last night. And when the tropical sun is at its peak, so many things evaporate, including the resiliency to stay awake after a sleepless night.

I try to focus but my vision gets blur every now and then, forcing me to use my natural wipers (eyelids) to keep my windscreen (eyes) clear.

Thankfully I reach home.

Now the dilemma was: have a long sleep before eating or eat after waking?

Should I shower? These are moments laziness is at high tides and, caution! Before the strong waves sweep me off into a long long sleep.
