The first few days of my stay at home with my parents were memorable. School reopened and my siblings were off to school.

For the first time, I stayed at home watching other pupils go to school. The fun part was that, I stayed at home and no one complained. Usually, mom or dad would complain if I asked to stay at home because I was ill or didn’t feel like going to school.

I wasn’t alone. All final year students in basic schools across the country who just wrote their final exams were at home, awaiting the results of their exams. It was fun being at home, having nothing to do, watching TV all day and being left at home to do as I please when everyone including my parents left the house.

But soon, boredom was setting it. Having nothing to do only seems fun when you’re bombarded with tasks, when you’re busy day in day out. But when you suddenly feel free from all occupations, having nothing to do except relax 24/7, the joy wanes with the passing of time.

I began to miss my classmates. Thankfully, some of my friends organized conference calls and we talked for hours. Fortunately, there was a new telecommunications network in the system that was embarking on campaigns to get new customers on board. On their network, messaging to the same network after 9pm was free and one only paid for the first few minutes of a call and the rest of the hour was free.

New customers on their service could register a special number on the same network to which call were free for 6 months! I and my friends had so much fun on the network.

A week after our completion, there was an excursion to the tallest mountain in Ghana, Mount Afadjato. I couldn’t go. I didn’t have the money.

Later when I saw the pictures, I wished I had joined them. Life is not only about learning. One must make time to socialize and create memories.
