When times are tough, many things are hard to come by: money, loyal friends, encouragement. But one thing remains in abundance. Excuses.
Excuses to not keep up reading books you planned to finish by the close of the year. Excuses to not keep up working out four times a week as scheduled. Excuses to divert money saved for a self upgrade program into what seems like a pressing need; deep down you know it is just lack of discipline to stick to your promise to yourself.
You have a stockpile of excuses in your closet, in your garage, on your couch, on your office desk, even soft copies on your phone and laptop. Excuses are the doormats at your home, welcoming visitors. What good have excuses done you?
Why not try something different and see the results. Stay up late if that’s what it takes for your agenda for the day to be completed. Risk getting a bad reputation if that’s the price for focusing on improving yourself. Don’t touch those first savings to get yourself out of poverty, even if it boils down to sleeping on an empty stomach. You won’t die.
Sometimes you have to be like a robot, programmed to deliver. Until the goal is achieved, keep toiling, whether you’re sad or happy, exhausted or energized. Even when there seems no way, find a way. There’s always a way when you’re willing to create one.
