Inhabitants of a certain remote village, after years of near-extinction due to famine, decided to invest all their resources into making a community farm. They had to walk for miles to a very distant stream for water to irrigate their crops till it was almost time for harvest.
One night, a cow that had lost its way home in the evening ended up spending the night in their farm, eating most of the farm produce and treading the rest under its foot.
The villagers, devastated by the incident, mourned all day.
Then one old lady suggested, “It is true that all we depended on for survival is gone. But, our farmland, and most of the village land is made of clayey soil. Let’s mould pots and other artefacts and sell to our neighboring villages. The proceeds can then be used to purchase foodstuffs and some other needs.”
“See the many things we can do with all this vast land of clay around us,” she added.
Following her advice, the villagers stopped lamenting and worrying, sold objects made from the clay all around them and made a fortune. They lived prosperously for the rest of the year.
No matter how bad the things that happen to us, we can always find a way forward that can even lead to a brighter tomorrow than the path we initially thought would take us there.
Let us keep in mind the remark of the old woman: “See the many things we can do with all this vast land of clay around us.”
I remind you today:
See the many things we could achieve with our time if we learn to wake up an hour earlier than usual.
See the many friends we can make by being less judgmental.
See the many good opportunities at our disposal with all this internet.
See the many useful things we can teach to children and all the idle minds around us.
See all these extra years we can live with all the gyms and a few extra minutes of jogging around us.
See the many better lives we could be living if only we learnt from every mistake we made.
And see the many great businesses and real estate waiting to be produced on the vast lands all around us whenever we travel.
See.
