One evening, while returning from a stroll in the woods, I found a moist, torn piece of paper on the floor with a very beautiful drawing of an African mother scolding her child who is about setting off to school.
I stood in those woods for minutes, admiring the creativity of the artist in capturing such a beauty on paper that reminds me a lot of my childhood.
I was saddened by the fact that such a masterpiece wasn’t exhibited at a cultural centre or artworks gallery but ended up as one of the many pieces of waste papers carried away by the wind into the wild bush.
The artist could have been a young boy or perhaps a girl who would soon be dissuaded from pursuing any interest in visual arts as there is neither patronage for nor a livelihood to be gained from a profession in artworks, especially in Ghana, West Africa.
I resolved that day to create an environment within which talents of all sorts can blossom. I know talent when I see one, even in its crudest form.
Today I present to you Linda Ngissah, a young lady very passionate about journalism. She’s a journalist residing in Accra, Ghana and has recently discovered that she has interests in poetry and short story writing and envisions publishing novels.
It is my hope to see her blossom into an illustrious journalist, poet, novelist and more.
Here is one of her very first piece of poetry she wrote in her diary:
“Pride puts you before all else
A persuasion into thinking of greatness
That even the earth is pleased to have you walk on
Oh how blindly that leads you on
But as one of the seven things the Creator hates
He takes you back by the road on which you came
And when the dust is finally wiped off your eyes
Do you realize how much greatness lies in humility.”
